SIP trunk settings for an AI phone receptionist

Callopero connects to your phone provider through SIP trunking — the standard way business phone numbers are connected to software. This guide explains which details you need and how calls reach the AI. Twilio, Telnyx, Plivo, Zadarma and most other SIP providers work.

  1. 1

Check that your provider supports SIP trunking

Callopero does not log in like a desk phone or softphone (it does not use SIP registration). To receive calls, your provider must be able to send calls to a SIP address — this is called SIP trunking, an origination URI or forwarding to a SIP URI. Accounts that only support softphone registration cannot deliver inbound calls to the AI.

  2. 2

Collect the details from your provider

You need the SIP server (domain), SIP username and password, and your phone number in international format. Some providers also give a port (usually 5060), a transport (UDP, TCP or TLS), an outbound proxy or a separate auth username — Callopero has fields for all of them.

  3. 3

    Add the connection in Callopero

Open Telephony → Connect your phone system, choose your provider (Twilio, Telnyx, Plivo, Zadarma or Generic SIP), enter the details and choose whether the number is used for inbound calls, outbound calls or both. The password is stored encrypted and never shown again.

  4. 4

    Route inbound calls to Callopero

After saving, the dashboard shows the Callopero SIP address and the exact steps for your provider — for example an Origination URI in Twilio Elastic SIP Trunking, an FQDN connection in Telnyx, an inbound trunk in Plivo or "External server (SIP URI)" in Zadarma. Send the calls of your number there.

  5. 5

    Allow only your provider (optional)

In "Provider IPs allowed for inbound" list the IP addresses of your provider's signalling servers, so that only your provider can send calls to your AI receptionist.

  6. 6

    Test the connection

Click "Test inbound: call your number now" and call your number from any phone: the dashboard shows when the call arrives. Then start a test call from the dashboard to your own mobile to check outbound calls.

Questions

Why do inbound calls not reach the AI receptionist?

Most often the number is not yet routed to the Callopero SIP address in your provider's portal, or the account only supports softphone registration. Check the routing, then run the inbound test in Telephony.

My provider rejects outbound calls. What can I do?

Some providers expect the caller ID in their own format, for example without the + or as an account number. Enter it in "Caller ID as your provider expects it" in the connection settings.

Which SIP providers work with Callopero?

Any provider that offers SIP trunking or forwarding to a SIP URI. Twilio, Telnyx, Plivo and Zadarma have ready-made steps in the dashboard.
